Beat the heat at "The Coolest Market in the Treasure Valley" Sunday, Aug. 16

Indoor Linen Building Sunday Market is part of TrICA Month in August

Want the summer public market experience without the summer heat? Then head to the Linen Building Sunday Market. The indoor, climate-controlled “Coolest Market in the Treasure Valley” will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise’s Linen District. Admission to this fun, family-friendly event is always free.

Every third Sunday of the month, the Linen Building Sunday Market showcases two dozen Creators offering locally-made arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing, food and drink.

In August, the market will be part of TrICA Month at the Linen Building, with Founder/Artistic Director/Balloon Twister Jon Swarthout custom-twisting balloon creations for the little ones. In addition to participating in the market, the Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts (http://www.trica.org/) will present the interactive children’s theater production “Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs” on Saturday, Aug. 8, and hold its Cupcake Collective competition/tasting fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 15.

TrICA will receive a portion of the proceeds from the August Sunday Market and the VIP afterparty on opening night of The Gallery at the Linen Building on Friday, Aug. 14.

At the market you’ll find unique Creators like The Thread Gatherer/Soap on a Whim. The sister companies combine hand-dyed threads and ribbons of exclusive colors with handmade scented soaps. Visit threadgatherer.com and http://www.soaponawhim.etsy.com/ for more info.

New to the Sunday Market is Poppi (http://www.poppipetals.etsy.com/), a jewelry company that specializes in making something new out of the old. Poppi’s jewelry makers take vintage, antique and even newer jewelry, tear it apart and create fun and affordable pieces.

After perusing the wares, cool off with a cold beer or refreshing mimosa from Jenny’s Lunch Line and Metro Gourmet Catering Company. Enjoy freshly-squeezed juice, artisanal sandwiches, fresh fruit salad, homemade quiches and sweets, all made with local, organic ingredients. For more info, visit http://www.jennyslunchline.com/ and http://www.metrogourmetboise.com/.

Live music will be provided by Chad Cooke, a Boise folk-pop artist who has drawn comparisons to everyone from Neil Young to Elliott Smith. The versatile singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist released his first album, Appearing In Town, earlier this year. Visit http://www.chadcookemusic.com/ for more info.

A portion of Sunday Market proceeds are donated back to the community each month. Past recipients include the Idaho Foodbank, Boise Rescue Mission and Women’s and Children’s Alliance of Boise.
